エルエーコネクトのウェビソードや、キットソンのストアインタービューをしてくれているエリンにお話をききました。LAでテレビホストを目指す彼女の夢と心構えなど、どんなことを思って日々がんばっているのでしょうか。
Q: How did you start hosting?
Erin: I started working as a host at age 17 in my hometown of San Jose, CA. I hosted a local, public access show called "Spotlight TV" which showcased local performers, events, and places. It was an incredibly fun experience for me, and I knew I wanted to do continue working in that vein.
It challenged me to start interviewing people, and finding the interesting aspects about where you are and what you're doing. When I first started out I knew very little about hosting, but it was a great learning experience!

知らない人にインタビューしたり、自分が訪れた場所ややっている事を楽しく紹介したりするのは難しかったです。仕事を始めた時はホストについてほとんど何も知らなかったので、この仕事では本当にたくさんの事を学びました！
Q: What is your goal in hosting?
Erin: My ultimate goal is to have a career with longevity! I enjoy so many aspects about what I do that it's hard to pinpoint one specific thing I'd like to achieve. There are many places I want my hosting career to go. For example, I'd love to host a travel show that would allow me to interact with different cultures, and discover new places. I also love working on the red carpet and would like to eventually cover the Academy Awards for a major network. I can also see myself hosting a personality driven show like, "Attack of the Show" on G4. And I would love to have my own show where I could play a part in the production and the writing process.

エリン：最終的なゴールは長くやっていけるキャリアを持つこと！司会業の様々な面に魅力を感じているから、そのどれかひとつに絞ってゴールを決めるのって難しいんです。色々なことをやってみたい。例えば異文化交流ができたり、知らない土地を訪ねたりするような旅番組のホストなんて最高ですね。レッドカーペットのお仕事も好きなので、いずれは主要ネットワークでアカデミーショーの取材もしてみたいです。それから、G4チャンネルで放映されている『Attach of the Show』のような、自分のキャラクターが番組の人気を左右するような番組の司会もできると思います。制作や脚本を手掛けたりできる自分の番組もぜひ持ちたいです。
Q: Who is your hero?
Erin: My hero is the woman who does it all, Oprah! Oprah inspires me because she is a confident woman who really believes in herself. Even when she started out in her career, she never seemed to have a moment of doubt. It's almost as if she knew the world was her proverbial oyster from the start, and that's a quality I think all young woman can learn from. She is such a positive role model.

エリン：私のヒーローは、何でもやっちゃう女性オプラ・ウィンフリーです！なぜかと言うと彼女は自信に満ちた溢れた女性だからです。オプラはまだ駆け出しの頃でさえ、迷いなんて全くないように見えました。まるで最初から、何でもうまくいくって知っていたみたいに。これって多くの若い女性が見習うべきことだと思います。オプラって本当に素晴らしいお手本です。
Q: Tell us about an interesting experience in your profession.
Erin: I think it's always important to bring an element of fun to the project you're currently working on, so I'm not afraid to take risks! While covering Twiistup 2009 for socialmediamarketing.com, I challenged Chamillionaire (he was one of the speakers at this particular event) to a rap-off. Most people wouldn't challenge a professional rapper to a rap-off, but I knew that the end result would at least be entertaining for the viewers! I definitely lost, but at least now I can say I rapped with Chamilllionaire!
質問：仕事上での面白い体験を教えて下さい。
エリン：どんなお仕事にも楽しさを加えるのって大事だと思っているので、リスクは恐れません！ソーシャルメディア・ドットコム社のTwiistup 2009というイベントのお仕事をしたとき、ラッパーのキャミリオネア（彼はゲストスピーカーのうちの一人でした）にラップの勝負を挑んだんです。プロのラッパーとラップで対決するなんて無謀ですよね！でも視聴者の方には喜んでもらえると思ったんです。もちろん負けましたが、少なくともキャミリオネアとラップしたって自慢できます。
Q: What characteristics make a good host?
Erin: It depends on the kind of host you want to be. The characteristics you need to be a hard-hitting journalist type of host, are very different than a Jenny McCarthy, MTV kind of host. I think it's more important to find what makes you unique, that will automatically separate you from the crowd! However, there are skills that I think are important for all hosts to have, such as a a good work ethic, a likeable personality, an ability to easily connect with other people, and most importantly, confidence!
質問：良いホストになる為の特徴とは何ですか？
エリン：どんなホストになりたいかによります。シリアスなジャーナリストタイプのホストとジェニー・マッカーシーのようなMTVのホストとでは必要になってくる要素が全く違います。それよりも、あなたの個性（群集の中にいてもすぐに見分けられる程の！）とは何なのかを見極めることの方が大事だと思います。もちろん、仕事に対する誠実な姿勢、人から好かれる性格、人とつながれる力、そして何より重要な自信といった、すべてのホストに一貫して大切なスキルもあると思います。
Q: Tell us about your childhood.
Erin: I was born and raised in San Jose, CA into an amazing family who has always been very supportive of me. I grew up playing tennis and attending dance classes. I used to want to be a professional tennis player, and was always hitting tennis balls up and down my stairs when nobody else had the time or energy to take me to the courts! That's a little known fact about me.

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Erin: In five years I see myself doing what I'm doing now at a larger level. I just want to achieve success and notoriety for being great at what I do.
